Additional ways to get control of your finances

Hello I I’m Salinas Bankruptcy lawyer Clark Miller with your Financial Focus Tip. Something to help you stay on the path to financial success.

After suggesting that you set aside your credit cards and make use of cash and your debit card, last week I recommended ways to start saving your hard-earned dollars. places where you should not use a debit card.

This week, some further tips on getting control of your finances:

First, don’t view your whole paycheck as a source of spending-set yourself an allowance-money that is not for groceries or paying bills-that extends all the way to the next paycheck. And stick to it. When the allowance is gone, stop spending. Just as with not carrying your credit cards, this may seem hard at first, so try it for one week and see how it goes. I bet you’ll be motivated to keep at it.

Second, consider a triple play-internet, cable, and phone providers often offer substantial discounts when all three services are bundled together. When reviewing plans, give consideration to giving up the land line. And reconsider that premium cable (or any cable at all given how cheap streaming services have become).

Third, learn how to use Craig’s List. It’s easy. And I guarantee you that you have enough things lying around the house that you no longer use that could bring you $500 or even $1000-instruments, furniture, appliances, even books and records. In addition your spouse will be happy that you’re finally cleaning out the place.

Saving money, cutting spending, selling off old stuff, may seem small steps, but they do lead to a real result. Like losing weight or working out, it just takes a while to see the results. But forming new good habits such as these will help you get control of your finances. And as I’ve said before, stay away from the credit cards.

In weeks to come I’ll be bringing you more tips to help you avoid money problems. I’m hoping you don’t have to call me, but if you do the first consultation is always free. I’m Salinas Bankruptcy lawyer Clark Miller. Call me at 831-424-1764.
